History

Elderly Care Programme within the Vocational School of Health Services of Akdeniz University started its education and training activities in 2006-2007. The programme, which was opened as the first 2nd Elderly Care Programme in Turkey, has been continuing its education and training activities as formal and secondary education since 2014. In the first years of the Elderly Care Programme, our School of Higher Education has made international agreements with different universities in Germany within the scope of Erasmus cooperation, including student and staff exchange. Student and staff exchange mobility within the scope of the programme's Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin, Evangelische Fachhochschule Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe Bochum University of Applied Sciences agreements continues effectively. In addition, the faculty members of the Elderly Care Programme have carried out Mevlana bilateral cooperation activities with developed countries such as Japan and Germany in different years, including curriculum and practice development studies. In the academic staff of the programme, who are experienced and expert in the field of elderly health and care; there are 1 experienced associate professor, 1 lecturer and 1 lecturer.

Aim of the Programme

The main objective of the programme is to train qualified elderly care staff who will provide services to the elderly population in our country, which is in the course of an aging society, and to create a healthy and quality aging society. From this point of view, our aim is to integrate and assimilate the necessary knowledge, skills and values about elderly care service; to train competent elderly care technicians who are qualified to implement and develop elderly care service in public, private and non-governmental organisations.

Admission and Registration Requirements

High school graduation is required for admission to the programme. It is necessary to have enough points from the Higher Education Institutions Examination with TYT score type. General admission requirements for Turkish and foreign students are valid to start the programme. (Lowest Score 2022: 289.393 Quota 2022: 65).

Graduation Requirements

To have a total of 120 credits at the end of four semesters, as well as having a GPA of at least 2.00 according to the 4 point grade system. Graduates who successfully complete the programme by fulfilling all the requirements are awarded "Associate Degree Diploma" with the title of "Aged Care Technician" in the field of "Aged Care".

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the Aged Care Programme; institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Family and Social Services where elderly care services are carried out, nursing homes, nursing homes for the elderly, homes for the elderly, day care centres for the elderly, applications for the elderly in health units, palliative care services, home care services, municipalities, hospitals, non-governmental organisations, etc. can be employed under the supervision of experts in areas such as.

Transition to a Higher Degree

Graduates of the elderly care programme can make vertical transfer to related undergraduate programmes within the quota, provided that they get enough points from the Vertical Transfer Examination conducted by ÖSYM. These programmes; They can make vertical transfer to undergraduate programmes such as Gerontology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Nursing and Health Services.
